Moments That Matter: A Reflection on Connection and Compassion

Access Bars Peregian Markets

Photo: The stall organisers—two gay men—asked me to make sure there are more ‘naked’ men at our stall by the time they get back from their smoko. 🙂 And if it’s not happening, I’ll get fired lol (I am volunteering there). It’s been such fun to be there. Many things are ending this year… Oh, it’s a year of 9. So, that’s the end of cycles. How exciting, new has space and can come in!

PS. That chapter has been sitting on my desktop since last December as many of my writings do.

Weirdly enough, yesterday on my way back home, I noticed a lady on boardwalk sitting on a bench, wiping away her tears.

I had already walked past her for 20 m when I thought, ‘No, I am going to do this; I do not want to regret that I didn’t.’ I turned around and walked back and sat next to her; she started talking. Her husband had passed 2 weeks ago, and this was the spot they usually came to for a coffee together. She was there just by herself for the first time. I asked if she had anyone else here that she is close to. She said she has 2 grown-up children going out of the nest just now too. Her face lightened up for a moment, when she said, ‘But I have a dog.’ Her husband had suggested getting him.

We had quite a chat; I shared my impossible moment with her; she wished me luck for my thing that seemed still impossible, and off I went.

For all this time it hammered in my head, ‘Where do I know her from?’ (Perhaps my face memory hasn’t improved like I hoped for). I have been in too many social groups in the last 5 years… and then, later at home, I had my lunch, laksa soup that I order weekly from the local Thai restaurant, when I suddenly realised it is the lady! The chef and owner of the restaurant I’ve been going to since moving here! My good God! I prepared some of my sweet treats for her and went to pick up my order for this week. She came, arms wide open, to hug me. We had a good hug, and somehow there was a knowing we’re going to be all good! There was such gratitude for each other…

Waiting for my soup, I noticed a sign on the window: Business for sale. 🙁

Why I am telling the story is many things, but mostly the weird and amazing coincidence, and I am happy that I did what I did and got somewhat over my Scandy slow-mo and took an action instead of going to overanalyse.

Now that last Saturday they eventually closed that restaurant, I am going to miss it! I did bring her a bunch of roses, we had a great hug, and she promised that once she’s back from her trip, we will go for a coffee, and she will make me a laksa, Thai spicy.

‘Moral’ of the story: even if you’re afraid, do it anyway! It’s part of getting more aware; you have started to appreciate the value of the possible outcome more than your fears. (Fears are always rooted in ego). Many are waiting for all their life to start living…but life is now.:)

Here is the Global Coherence group where you can measure your own coherence and contribute to the global energy field. It might require password, I will post it here once I find out.

The results for me were surprisingly low at the start very slowly getting better; I am in week 9 atm. I noticed that with eyes open the score is better, and thinking someone or something kind thoughts of raises the score immediately. Something to play with! 🙂

Have too much fun on the weekend!
