The Flower Guy, the Roses, and the Space Between: Lessons on Change, Kindness, and Letting Go

love your pets, the cat

Photo: I have been wanting to write about cats and dogs for the longest time. According to the book ‘Teaching of Survival’, you start to see your pets in a very different way once you’ve realised interesting things about them. It’s funny and confronting.

The flower guy crossed my way the other evening again, gave me a miniature bucket of wild flowers and said, ‘If you have a good imagination, picture it’s a big, luscious rose,’ and I said, ‘Oh, I have heaps of that for sure!’ 🙂

When he stopped for a second to do that, I already had placed my hand on my heart to say thank you while hiding my glazed, teary eyes behind the sunglasses and holding back a cascade of tears, as I was extremely stressed out at the time. Two chicks behind him looked at me. ‘Oh well, she is just as lunatic as the old dude…’

Then I thought: is that how we judge kindness? Weird? What else do we judge that is actually wonderful in this world, but since we haven’t experienced it the way before, it must be wrong…?

That is that one thing he can do, and he does it to cheer people up. What’s that you do, or be, babe?

Everything has changed; some things that worked before easily aren’t doing the same anymore. It feels like everything recalibrates itself, and many things are leaving, and it’s not making me sad, although having so much space is a little uncomfortable if you’re not used to it.

Are you ready to let go of the things in your life? How much space would that create for the things you’ve been asking for a billion years or didn’t think are possible?

Photo from my walkway: Suddenly there are roses everywhere, on your walkway, in a conversation, in the song you hear in the shopping centre and even on your bed – the bed of roses! 🙂

That coherence course, which I almost felt like I was going to quit 2 weeks ago, made me go through what I think is to say a dark night of the soul or something like that. I never bought into things like that, but it seems appropriate to put it this way, and on top of everything, it didn’t feel like it was mine at all. It was like a heavy cloud of darkness pressing on my upper body. I was sitting in it, facing it, without knowing if it was ever going to leave, but it did.

The most fascinating so far were the first 3 weeks, where they teach you to breathe through your heart. My heart physically was aching these weeks, I was touchy-feely, I slept long sleeps, I didn’t feel like walking my long walks, I didn’t feel like I was going to write anymore…the synchronicities that happened and it was all very quiet. It has changed over now again, but that silence in the background is still present. It’s like enormous Space has been created/ freed up for something different that is ready to emerge.

My city days are coming to an end for now, and on the coast, I am going to move houses. That is a relief, as however great the location, it never felt like home. I grew up surrounded by sea, as it’s a sea country, so I do not have the need to live next to it.

November in Brisbane is always infused by world-class artists, as if you should take the whole month to go to see them all, hope you’ll take advantage of it if that’s something that lifts your spirit.

If change wants to come, do not resist it, even if you can’t calculate with your logical mind how, when or why.

If you didn’t remember your past and opened your eyes for the first time today, what would you choose? Who would you hire back to your life, where would you live, what would be your new baseline?
